My parents are coming to Ohio this weekend to visit me for the first time since I've moved out here.
Mom has never been in Ohio before, and the last time Dad was here, was to help me move in. My chump brother is electing to stay back in Green Bay to see all of his college buds instead, since it'll be the first weekend of his semester.
Anyway, the parental units are driving down and spending the weekend with Zach and me (Zach is flying in to meet us all).
And you know, I'm not sure who is more excited, my parents or Zach!
(1) Dad is so cute, already making repeated, distracted comments on the phone about making the drive, taking on traffic, and buckling down for the 10 hour length.
Captain Ullmer is taking the interstate down, folks. Those of you who have met my father, also know how that man can DRIVE.
(2) Meanwhile, Zach has been talking frequently over the past three days about pointers to give to my Dad for the drive down. Right now he is feverishly typing up a several-page document with instructions and photos of how to get to Ohio, to hand off to them. He's been strategizing times of day for my parents to leave, so they can avoid rush-hour traffic stops in Milwaukee and Chicago. He had me sit down and think about the drive, and list in chronological order all construction zones that are encountered along the route.
Sweetheart, you are so devoted and thorough. But, I think my parents will be OK and know how to navigate. :-) They're used to the good ol' days of family vacations driving across country with nothing more than a Rand McNally road atlas and a yellow highlighter, marking down our route on the paper pages in the atlas with the yellow ink.
Bring on an apartment full of family. :-)
